We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you a rock/rap collaboration!
This is the first Bucket collab with dual primary artists, a fusion of rock and rap with The Brooklyn Nat1ve (aka BK Native), Angel Lugo.
Jason and Angel crossed paths at several open mics before approaching each other about a potential collaboration. Angel had already been working with a variety of acoustic guitarists and singer-songwriters, so the opportunities were obvious. And as luck would have it, Jason had a hook and a chorus with no verses.
Truth be told, Jason had hit a wall with this song. The verses he tried to write were weak. Giving the song new life with a collaboration was the way to go.
Jason recorded a demo with the verses blank, sent that to Angel, and the core idea came to life a few days later.
Angel had a gig a Human Tradition and while he had not planned to do this song that night, when Jason showed up he borrowed a guitar and they ran through it on the sidewalk outside. They did this early version that night.
Things came together quickly after this. Jason recorded an updated version on the grid at 92 BPM and some simple drum loops. Then Angel got them some time at Mansion Studios. After that they both took another pass at their vocals using Jason’s home studio setup.
Bucket’s mixing engineer Gordon Highland added the rest to make this single launch, adding real bass, synth bass, and more drums to the choruses. See also his post here.
This song will rise again with a different mix once Angel’s album comes out. Definitely stay tuned for that!!
