Wishbone (live)

Jason here. This is a song I’m working on for another Big City Folk song challenge. The Open Mic at Otto’s Shrunken Head is a wonderful safe space for sharing new material.

This song is about a spider, and there’s a true story behind it. Back when I lived in the suburbs I walked out one morning and found an enormous, beautiful spiderweb connecting the side of my house and the side of my car.

I had to get to work, and felt awful ripping this amazing thing apart to do so. The crazy thing was that the next morning another huge web was back in the same place, as if nothing had ever happened. And again, I had to take my car out and destroy it.

I called that spider Wishbone. I was about to pull that web apart again, and the spider would either stay with the house, or ride off with the car, like when you pull a wishbone apart and don’t know who’s going to get the bigger side.
