Jason here.
This is a fun song that I wrote in response to a song challenge as part of Big City Folk Song Club. The prompt word was "laminate", which got me thinking about things that are laminated like photo IDs and passports and whatnot.
Photos of ourselves can give a visceral reaction. The person in the photo is a different version of you, who has yet to experience the things that you, in the present, know will be coming. For better, or for worse.
When I’m facing big decisions in life I try to pick the path that future me will look back on and be grateful. This song is kind of about that.
I call this kind of recording a “campfire demo” since it’s just me and a guitar. Without having a full band it’s more like sitting around a campfire, strumming and singing.
